Sam vs. JiffyLube telephone guy

So, I had my windshield replaced and I lost the sticker that shows when I last had an oil change. I am lazy, I take my truck to Jiffy Lube. So, I call there and ask them when I last had my oil change, here is the conversation:

Sam: I just wanted to find out what the mileage was on my last oil change

JLube: What is your mileage now?

Sam: 130,000

JLube: Oh man, you need to bring in your truck as soon as possible.

Sam: Cool. Thanks. So, what was my mileage the last time I had it done.

JLube: Its been 5 months now...you really should bring in your truck as it appears that it is well over due for an oil change.

Sam: Once again, cool to know. Thanks. What was my mileage last time.

JLube: Yep, its been 5 months.

Sam: (silence)

JLube: Your mileage was 126,000 miles. So yes, you should bring it in soon

Sam: Cool, only 4,000 miles in 5 months? Wow...looks like I have some time.

JLube: You should really bring it in to get that oil change.

Sam: Cool...I will see you in a month or so.

JLube: (silence)

Sam: Thanks for the info!!!

ZING! Ok, not much of a Zing, but I was extra chipper to him. I actually like the guys I work with at Jiffy Lube...but I don't appreciate the guy on the phone acting like my car was going to implode due to not getting my oil changed at 3,000 miles. They can see that I am a loyal customer who comes in often, yet they still try and sell me on the service. Somehow, someway, my truck has survived going over 3,000 miles.

the Halloween recap you have all been dying for

Carter loves Halloween. It means that he can go as something really scary. Last year he was one of those Harry Potter death reavers. Pretty spooky. This year, he dressed up as the Grim Reaper. He was mainly excited about the scythe (yes, I had to look up that word to spell it). The parades were cool as both boys are pretty pumped to strut their stuffs around. Beckham went in two different costumes this year--Winnie the Pooh and a snake/lizard/alligator combo.



We also did the whole pumpkin carving thing. Brodi informed me that I should not be using a machete to do the carving. Huge accomplishment though--no fingers were lost. Brodi also decided to use the oven, and we had toasted pumpkin seeds. I would have put a picture of Brodi getting the seeds out of the pumpkin, but she would not have been pleased as she looked like she was going to be sick in every picture (she has a thing with goopy food things on her hands). The boys were pleased.



Halloween evening, we stopped by both sets of grandparents to show off the kids. They were a big hit and they scored some candy there.






The rest of the night was running around the neighborhood collecting candy. After we got home, some of Carter's friends stopped by and wanted him to go out with them again. So, Carter headed off. After about 30 minutes, I decided to go and make sure that they were doing OK. Let me just say, I may have creeped out some people in my area...I was slowly driving around in my truck trying to find him...so everytime I saw a group of kids, I would go real slow by them with me peering out the window. Yes, that night, I became THAT creepy guy prowling for kids. I did eventually find Carter again. Halloween is over.

The bestest movie ever!!

Who doesn't love Elizabeth Taylor? She seems to get better with age. She saw the new Michael Jackson movie but she was careful to not overhype it. Here are some of her thoughts:

"I was honored with the great privilege of seeing 'This Is It' last week. I was sworn to secrecy, but now I can let you know about it," she wrote. "It is the single most brilliant piece of filmmaking I have ever seen. It cements forever Michael's genius in every aspect of creativity."

She wasn't done there. "To say the man is a genius is an understatement. He cradles each note, coaxes the music to depths beyond reality," she tweeted. "You owe it to yourselves and your loved ones to see this again and again. Memorize it and say to yourselves, 'I saw genius in my lifetime.'" Taylor, who recently broke the news about a minor heart surgery on Twitter, said she wished her vocabulary "encompassed" what she felt. "If you listen to his lyrics, they are those of a modern-day prophet and it beseeches us to listen to him and what he sang," she wrote. "We must his take his words of responsibility seriously. We cannot let his life be in vain."

No offense, but does anyone really believe that this movie is better than Strange Brew, Gone with the Wind, Citizen Kane and the Godfather? I believe that many people consider those 4 movies, the four best of all time, so it looks like we can add this to the top 5 collection.

the NBA and Mascots

NBA season starts tonight. I love basketball. Back in Washington DC, I would fall asleep to games at 1am nearly every night. This year will be interesting for Jazz fans to see how the team pulls together...around the league, we will get to see if Shaq can settle in with the Cavs, how good will Orlando be with all of their changes, can anyone stop the Lakers, etc.

Beautiful hair gone...but Metrosexy man remains

If you see me around town looking extra metrosexy, well, its because I have let my lovely wife cut my hair. Yes, there are some little issues with it--too close of a cut over the ears, a little uneven...and should we say something like "ohmygosh, ohmygosh, ohmygosh...what have I done?...I wonder if that will show up...EEEEEEKKKKKK....oh no...thats not good...how do people do this?...why did it cut so much, why did it cut so much?" Yeah, she uttered all of those words. With all that said, man oh man, do I look good. Good work Bro.

On an entirely different subject--does anyone have a sharpie that is in dark, dark brown color?

Hosting a Party which would make me the Most unpopular guy in the Neighborhood

I can think of a lot of party ideas. Actually, I can think of a lot of bad party ideas. An adult Twister party? I would probably not get a lot of friends to come to that one. Dress up as your favorite Lords of the Ring party? Yeah, I would probably not get a lot of friends to come to that party.

But both of those ideas look genius compared to the having a Computer Operating System party. For those of you with a computer (A PC, not an Apple Computer), your current computer probably has Windows Vista or XP as its operating system. Well, Microsoft has come out with a new operating system, Windows 7. So Microsoft and its Ad agency came out with a perfect idea of having computer users host parties to introduce their friends to the new computer Operating System. Seriously. Not kidding.

The idea here is to invite your friends over to your house, make some snacks and sit around your computer and learn a new operating system. Yeah, how fun does that sound? To help us, Microsoft even did a video to show you how to host one of these parties. Once again, I'm being serious. (start the video and press pause for about 30 seconds and then watch so that it can run smoothly).

I can't wait to host my own party. It sounds like fun. Look for your invitations in the mail.
